Text Use and Description
Add Text Button and Use
- Text is the most common element of a web site. Add text fields below subheads to give the appearance of a newspaper or magazine page. Add text fields below or above a picture to provide descriptive information.
- There are two different kinds of text fields to choose from. Regular text fields allow you to provide a paragraphic appearance and will preserve double carriage returns as open white space between paragraphs.
- Bulleted text fields will place a "bullet" (a dark blob) before the first letter following a carriage return. Use bulleted text to itemize a list, such as this one.
- Other uses of text fields include the use of HTML code. Using HTML code within a text field can be useful for embedding links and creating specialized text.
- The text you place in the text field will be one size smaller than the default text size of a viewer's browser. The font will be Arial, or Helvetica if the visitor does not have Arial installed.
- You can always make text in a text box bold or italicized by putting <B> in front of the word you want bolded and </B> after. You are turning bold on with the first set of brackets and off with the second set. The same is true for italics, this time use <I> and </I>.
- The Add Text button will add a text field to your page. Use the element control (see button description to the right in sidebar) to move the text field up or down and to add or remove space between it and the element above it.
- To create a more obvious separation between text fields use the Add Rule button to create a thin line below the text field (it can be moved using the element control "move up" and "move down" buttons and more space can be created between the rule and the text field by using the element control "more space" button).
- There are two methods you can use to create text paragraphs with white space between the paragraphs. The first method is to use a single text box by clicking the Add Text button and using two carriage returns following the end of a paragraph. The other method is to use multiple text boxes, one text box for each paragraph. The text boxes are created with a space above them by default. The space can be removed, if desired, by clicking on the "less space" button on the element control.
